Music, Mental Health and Nature
Mental Health Awareness Week runs from Monday, May 10 to Sunday, May 16, 2021, and the theme for this year’s event is ‘nature‘ – which seems fitting after a year of lockdowns that has seen us forced indoors for extended periods.
Life can be challenging in many ways, and we all find our mental resilience challenged at times. Recognizing how nature is so central to our psychological and emotional health, the Mental Health Foundation hopes to inspire more people to step outside and connect with nature in new ways and notice the beneficial effect this connection can have on their mental health.
Percussion Play realized long ago the positive impact of being outside on our mental well-being. The evidence that demonstrates the powerful benefits of nature on our mental health; increased creativity, empathy, and sense of wonder, alongside the fact that music has been proven to enhance mood, boost feel-good endorphins and improve emotion regulation, are powerful indicators that music...
Percussion Play wins Queens Award for Enterprise
We are delighted to announce that Percussion Play has been named as the winner of a 2021 Queen’s Award for Enterprise – one of the highest accolades and most prestigious awards a UK-based company can win. We were informed that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had approved the Prime Minister’s recommendation that we should receive a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category in acknowledgment of our outstanding short-term growth in overseas sales over the past three years.
The International Trade category of the Queen’s Awards welcomes entries from organizations based in the UK that have been successfully growing their sales overseas - whether that's in one or more foreign markets. Winners must have demonstrated that their business has achieved substantial growth in overseas earnings and in commercial success (for their business size and sector) through either outstanding achievement over 3 years or continuous achievement over 6 years.

Our Top Five Outdoor Musical Instruments for Inclusive Communities
Music gives everyone a voice, and making music together can build a harmonious, cooperative spirit of support and encouragement for us all.
Inclusion is about engagement and often the lack of opportunity to get involved can be as significant a barrier as the nature of a person’s disability. The creation of holistic accessible outdoor music spaces, where many of the barriers that prevent a person from accessing music (whatever they might be) can be removed, will allow all members of the community the opportunity to experience live music as both a performer and listener - building shared musical and play experiences and in turn an understanding that will only help inclusion to grow.
After all, that is exactly what inclusive communities should be about: creating opportunities for us to share experiences, learn together, and maybe most importantly to have great fun together!
Music can have a profound effect on anyone, but the rewards of exposing people within the disabled community...

Welcome to National Intergenerational Week 8-14 March 2021
It's #IntergenerationalWeek - an online campaign connecting those passionate about intergenerational activity and inspiration. In its second year, the campaign is all about celebrating those ideas, moments, and opportunities local to us where different age groups can come together to work or play together and where intergenerational friendships can be made. This awareness week also gives the opportunity to plan for the future and develop new ideas and themes including the development of both indoor and outdoor spaces and places that will allow these amazing interactions to happen.
We are living in extraordinarily challenging times, where it is more important than ever to value interactions between the different generations to build respect and understanding. The creation of an inclusive outdoor music park, playground, or community music space will engage people of all ages, cultures, and abilities. Music-making brings people together in a way that few other activities can - fostering...
