Raising funds for a musical playground, music park, or musical play equipment can be a project in itself, and it can take several months to come to fruition. Unfortunately, there is no magic wand that you can wave to immediately gather the required funds, but we hope that our fundraising page will help guide you in the right direction.

Grants
Playground grants are just one way to obtain the funds needed for your project and are a great starting point. Grants are non-repayable funds provided by corporations, non-profits, and foundations for specific projects. They can range from a few hundred to several thousand pounds or dollars, helping to get you closer to your funding goal.

There are plenty of resources available to help find the perfect grant for your school, community, church, or organization. Below are a few to get you started. We can’t list all the granting sources for every country, state, or region, so be sure to also check within your area for a state or private organization knowledgeable about funding sources.

Fund Raising
So, you’re ready to start fundraising for your new musical garden or music park, but you’re not sure what to do next. Fundraising events are a popular, time-tested way for organizations, places of worship, and other groups to raise money. Check out the following sites that offer charity fundraising ideas, hints, and tips to help you get started:

The Directory for Social Change has a great website to help you with the ‘where from’ as well as the ‘how to’. This is a great article from SALSA 10 Outstanding Online Fundraising Ideas to Try. Better Fundraising Ideas has some no-nonsense fundraising advice for individuals, organizations, and charities with a website is packed full of novel ideas for great fundraisers.

A Washington residential camp focuses on inclusive summer and weekend respite programs for children and adults with disabilities. Now, it has developed an outdoor musical program to enhance its offerings for campers.

Located near Port Townsend, Camp Beausite Northwest is a certified respite provider that operates year-round, offering camp experiences and respite opportunities for over 350 campers and 1,000 caregivers each year. For more than 30 years, the camp has dedicated itself to serving the special needs community. Founded in 1989, Camp Beausite was created in response to the lack of inclusive camp experiences. Its mission focuses on inclusivity by providing summer and weekend camp programs throughout the year.

The management team decided to create a new musical program for campers, aiming to provide a unique, fun, and exciting experience that is different from what other camps offer. They chose to develop an outdoor music area, and Raina Baker, the Executive Director of Camp Beausite, led the initiative to install a variety of outdoor musical instruments sourced from Percussion Play. The collection includes the Alto Quartet Ensemble, Congas Trio, Emperor Chimes, and Alto Diatonic Freechimes.

Our product highlight of the week is our Tropical Cyclone, a miniature version of our Cyclone.

Its colorful rainbow design and smaller size make it ideal for use in early childhood settings. Turning the wheel sets the ball bearings in motion, creating a realistic rain sound. Players can adjust the intensity of the sound by spinning the wheel harder or softer, promoting gross motor skills and teaching the concept of cause and effect. Whether it’s a gentle drizzle, a heavy shower, or a full-blown downpour, the Tropical Cyclone allows for a range of rain sounds to be explored.

A new musical pollinator garden, named Melody Marsh, has opened at the @kansas.wetlands.education.cntr . This garden features various outdoor musical instruments from Percussion Play and is inspired by the surrounding wetlands. It officially opened its doors to guests in September.

The Kansas Wetlands Education Center is dedicated to educating the public about wetland communities, their importance, and the need for conservation and restoration, with emphasis on Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivira National Wildlife Refuge.

Curtis Wolf, the Director of the Kansas Wetlands Center, led the project and effectively utilized Composer AR, an app developed by Percussion Play. This augmented reality app allows users to visualize and interact with Percussion Play instruments in real-world settings in real time. By using Composer AR, Curtis was able to see, play, and hear the sounds of each instrument before making his final decision.

The @kohlchildrensmuseum of Greater Chicago has recently launched a new musical experience for young and adult visitors.

Percussion Play delivered the Rainbow Trio Ensemble instruments over the summer. The ensemble includes Rainbow Bongos, which are percussion instruments, along with a Rainbow Metallophone and Rainbow Chimes, both tuned to the pentatonic scale. This setup provides a safe environment for exploring new sounds outdoors.

Throwback to #asla2024 last week; harmonizing and making friends.

A small children’s museum in Santa Fe has made the most of its outside space by creating a series of ‘soundscapes’ designed to encourage intergenerational play and learning- all with Percussion Play’s outdoor musical instruments!

The @sfcmuseum is set in an old military armory warehouse. As it gears up to its 40th anniversary next year, it decided to renovate the outside space—with music as a focal point. Founded by a group of local women who wanted to see something different from home and school, they created an informal place of learning and play that is being enjoyed more than ever by local children and families.

The museum has just over 10,000 sq ft inside, but outside, it has over an acre, so there is plenty of space to create something special. The space was redeveloped with the National Wildlife Federation and their Early Childhood Health Outdoors organization, and today, the new outdoor space is being enjoyed by everyone.

In partnership with the @rsbccharity and @theambertrust Percussion Play has chosen World Sight Day to release new research exploring how play areas can be more accessible for the blind and partially sighted community.

As part of the project, two focus groups were held at the RSBC’s Life Without Limits Centre, where Percussion Play’s instruments were demonstrated. Feedback examined the accessibility of these instruments for blind and partially sighted users.

This research informed our new White Paper, “Sounds of Progress: Putting Music to Work for Blind, Low Vision, Partially Sighted and Visually Impaired People” which explores the ways in which music might be mobilized to create more inclusive environments.

We’re looking ahead to the 10th October 2024, which marks #WorldMentalHealthDay, and highlighting the positive impact that creating music and being outside — and, specifically, the combination of the two — can exert upon the mental wellbeing of people of all ages and abilities.

With a diverse selection of musical and percussion instruments and sound sculptures, we are committed to making musical expression accessible to everyone, everywhere, so that everyone can benefit from outdoor music-making. Our instruments provide opportunities for quality music-making in the outdoors for all adults and children, both those with no musical experience and those who were active musicians in the past. Most of the instruments are tuned to the pentatonic scale which makes playing them effortless as the notes within the scale all harmonize with one another, meaning there are no discordant notes, compelling even the non-musical to pick up a mallet and play, producing new and original melodies each time.

Music therapy benefits cognitive, emotional, and social issues as well as the physical needs of people. It has proven to be an effective way to help alleviate symptoms and provide a sense of inner calm to people. For this reason, music therapy is becoming an increasingly popular form of holistic ‘healing’.
