We’re marking #mentalhealthawareness Month this May by highlighting the benefits music has for people with mental health issues.

One reason why Percussion Play was founded is because the Founders realized the positive impact that creating music and being outside — and, specifically, the combination of the two — can exert upon the psychological well-being of people of all ages and abilities.

We’re marking #nationalparksweek this week! One such park that now brings the joy of music to visitors is Thompson County Park, based in Dakota County, which has recently installed a playground themed around pollination to engage children from an early age about the importance of looking after the environment. Funded by Dakota County, the playground was installed by @stcroixrec a family-run business and partner of Percussion Play specializing in commercial playground equipment in Minnesota.

Our product spotlight of the week is our classic Cavatina.

Part of our Rainbow Collection, the Cavatina is robust, weather-proof, and durable. The notes on the Cavatina are arranged as a traditional xylophone or glockenspiel with low to high notes going from left to right. Diatonically tuned, its versatility provides a vast range of expression suited to beginners and experienced musicians, performing in even the most challenging outdoor environments.

Set over black resonators, the vibrantly colored anodized notes are assigned to our rainbow scale and can be combined with one of our Music Books where the notes on the instruments correspond with the colored notes on the music sheets. Players then follow the colors to play a well-known song.

There are no wires or strings; the notes are individually and securely attached to a high-density polyethylene backboard below. Check out more in our stories. 🎶

Our Composer AR App is an innovative augmented reality (AR) App that is set to revolutionize the way communities design and build support for outdoor musical instruments.

Our App offers a unique opportunity to create a ‘shared vision’ for music-making in various locations such as parks, schools, libraries, playgrounds, and hospitals worldwide.

Music therapy benefits cognitive, emotional, and social issues as well as the physical needs of people. It has proven to be an effective way to help alleviate symptoms and provide a sense of inner calm to people. For this reason, music therapy is becoming an increasingly popular form of holistic ‘healing’, particularly for children and adults who are autistic.

Hopping into Easter with our Stepping Stones! Happy Easter!

We’re excited to share our latest case study of a preschool in Kansas that has installed our outdoor musical instruments to encourage musical fun!

@crosspointnow Church in Salina installed our instruments using grants the church preschool received. The preschool team had plans to create a music garden, providing an outlet for children to express themselves, and music seemed like the perfect solution.

Our Rainbow Trio is incorporated in the garden, which includes Rainbow Bongos, the Rainbow Metallophone, and Rainbow Chimes, all brightly colored to engage young children. Shelly Peters, who oversaw the creation of the project, commented, “We were set on installing outdoor musical instruments, and after lots of research, we came across Percussion Play, which had fantastic reviews. When deciding which instruments to order, we were drawn towards the bright colors of the Rainbow Trio Ensemble, which are perfect for children of preschool age.”
